 The Sun

The center of the Solar System is the main star i.e. the Sun. The Sun is the biggest star in our sky. It is about 5 billion years old, and will continue to shine for another five billion years in the similar fashion it is doing now. Its diameter is about 1,400,000 kilometres. Temperature at the surface of the Sun is about 6,000°C. But temperature at the core of the Sun is about 15,000,000°C. From carth, the Sun seems extremely large and bright compared to all the other stars. It consists almost entirely of hydrogen and helium. There are also found some traces of oxygen, carbon and other elements. At the center of the Sun, hydrogen is converted into helium by nuclear fusion, releasing enormous energy in the process. This energy travels from the center of the Sun to the visible surface called the Photosphere where it leaves the Sun in the form of heat and light.
