MERCURY

Mercury is the closest planet o the Sun, ochiting at an average distance of about fifty eight million kilometers. Since it is the nearest planet to the San it moves faster than any other planer traveling at an average speed of nearly 48 Lilometers per second and completes an orbir in just under 88 days Mercury is really very small, and only Pluto samaller than this and full of rocks. On the first look, Mercury appears quite similar to our moon-bare
and rocky covered with craters and plains full of lava. The shape of Mercury's orbit is quite different than others. All the other planets have nearly circular orbits but Mercury's is elliptical-more like an oval.

Because it is close to the Sun and spins very slowly, Mercury has great extremes of temperature. Where it faces the Sun, it can reach 660 Fahrenheit. When during the long nights and with no atmosphere to keep the heat in, the temperature can go down up to -275" fahrenheit. When it is coldest, the surface of mercury is seven times colder than a deep freeze.
